DEMS TAKE PRO-GAY STANDS

Both the Rules Committee and Platform Committee of the Democratic Party have taken pro-gay stands in preparation for the Democratic National Convention to be held in New York City in mid-August.

In addition to mandating the inclusion of gays in party affairs, the rules committee now requires women in equal numbers at the convention and on all major boards and committees. Also, the committee agreed that representation of blacks, Hispanics, AsianPacific Americans, native Americans, women and youth should be "as nearly as praticable" proportionate to their numbers in the Democratic electorate.
